About HazWreck
HazWreck is Sydney’s licensed demolition contractor, trusted by homeowners, builders and property managers right across the metro area. Whether you’re planning a knockdown rebuild, clearing a site for a development, or stripping a property back before a renovation, we bring structures down quickly, safely and to NSW safety regulations — with minimal disruption to your site, your neighbours and the street.
Our crews handle the full range of residential and light commercial demolition: full house demolition and knockdowns, partial and internal demolition, garage, shed and carport removal, wall and structural demolition, strip-outs, site clearing, excavation preparation and land levelling. No two jobs are the same, so every demolition starts with a proper site assessment — we plan safe access, isolate hazards, protect surrounding structures, and give you a clear scope and a fixed quote before any machine moves.
Demolition is heavy, regulated work, and doing it right matters. Every HazWreck job is fully licensed and insured, carried out to NSW WHS standards, with all debris removed responsibly and disposed of at EPA-approved facilities. You get full documentation — fixed pricing, photos and compliance records — so there are no nasty surprises on the bill or with council.
And because older Sydney homes so often hide asbestos, we bring something most demolition crews can’t: a SafeWork NSW Class B asbestos removal licence (AD214755). If bonded asbestos turns up in the roof, eaves, fences or wall sheeting, we remove it safely and keep the job moving — one accountable contractor for the knockdown and the hazmat, instead of juggling two.
From the first site visit to the final clean sweep, we turn up on time, communicate clearly, work tidy, and hand back a clean, level site ready for your next build.
Whatever your situation
Every site is different, but most demolition work falls into a few shapes. Here’s how we approach them.
Building new? We bring the old house down fast and clean, make the services safe, remove every trace — including any bonded asbestos — and hand you a level, cleared pad your builder can start on, with the disposal and compliance paperwork sorted.
When a building is unsafe after storm or fire, we move quickly to assess, make the site safe, and demolish or strip back the damaged structure — handling any asbestos exposed in the process and clearing the site so repairs or a rebuild can begin.
Opening up, extending, or gutting back to frame before a renovation? We remove exactly what your plans call for — walls, bathrooms, kitchens, additions — protect what stays, and cart the debris away so your trades walk into a clean, ready space.
Asbestos in the way?
One contractor for the knockdown and the hazmat.
The detail
Bringing a house down safely is far more than swinging a machine at it. Every HazWreck demolition starts with a site assessment and a plan: how we’ll access the site, where the machine and trucks sit, and how we protect the neighbours, the street and anything that stays.
Before a structure comes down, the services have to be made safe — power, water, gas and telecommunications disconnected or capped by the relevant authorities. Most demolitions also need development approval (a DA or a Complying Development Certificate) and neighbour notification before work can start; we’ll tell you exactly what your job needs and work in with your certifier or builder.
On the day, we isolate the work zone, control dust, protect adjoining fences and buildings, and bring the structure down in a controlled sequence. Older homes are checked for bonded asbestos first — if it’s there, we remove it under our Class B licence before the demolition proceeds, so there’s no stop-work and no second contractor.
Most Sydney homes built before the late 1980s contain bonded (non-friable) asbestos — in roof sheeting, eaves, wall cladding, fences and wet-area linings. Disturbing it during a demolition without the right licence is illegal and dangerous.
HazWreck holds a SafeWork NSW Class B asbestos removal licence (AD214755), so we identify and remove bonded asbestos as part of the same job — no waiting on a separate removalist, no second mobilisation cost, and no programme blowout when ACM turns up mid-demolition. One accountable contractor handles the hazmat and the knockdown together. If we ever find friable material, we stop, advise you and arrange the correct licensed path — we never work outside our licence. See our asbestos removal page for how that side of the job is handled.
Demolition generates a lot of waste, and where it ends up matters — for the environment, for council, and for you. We sort and remove all demolition debris and dispose of it responsibly at EPA-approved facilities, recycling brick, concrete, metal and timber where we can.
You’re handed a clear paper trail: a fixed, itemised quote up front, progress and completion photos, disposal records, and — where asbestos was involved — disposal dockets that prove the job was done lawfully. It’s the documentation councils, insurers and future buyers want to see.
Demolition is heavy, regulated work. Using an unlicensed or uninsured operator puts the risk back on you — for site safety, for any asbestos mishandling, and for the clean-up if something goes wrong. HazWreck is fully licensed and insured, works to NSW WHS Regulations on every job, and carries the asbestos licence most demolition crews don’t.
From a single garage to a full knockdown — or a commercial strip-out and defit — you get one accountable team, a fixed price, and a clean, level site handed back ready for what’s next.
Cost guide
Demolition is priced on the structure, access, the services involved, any asbestos, and the volume of waste — so the honest answer is “it depends.” Here’s a realistic starting guide for Sydney:
What moves the price is the size and construction of the building, how easily machines and trucks can reach the site, whether services need disconnecting, how much (if any) bonded asbestos is present, and the tonnage of waste to be carted and disposed of. Whatever the job, you get a fixed, itemised quote before any machine moves — no day-rates, no surprises.
All figures are indicative only and confirmed after a site inspection. Every HazWreck quote is fixed and itemised, with no surprises.
How it works
We inspect the site, plan safe access, flag hazards (including any bonded asbestos), and give you a clear scope and fixed quote.
We isolate hazards, protect surrounding structures, and bring the structure down to NSW WHS standards with minimal disruption.
All debris removed and disposed of at EPA-approved facilities, with photos and compliance records — a clean site ready for your next build.
Recent work
Asbestos roof removal, a complete garage demolition, removal of a rear steel shed and full site clearance — one crew, start to finish.
“Baris & the HazWreck team are true professionals! They act with high integrity, provide great service, turn up on time and are genuinely a great team to deal with!!”
What builders & owners say
“I’ve used HazWreck across multiple projects — two full house demolitions in Auburn and Lidcombe, a commercial strip-out in Penrith, and ongoing site clean-ups. As a residential builder, having one contractor who can handle demolition, asbestos and site clearance under one roof saves me a huge amount of coordination and time. Baris and the team are professional, reliable and always hand the site back clean and ready to build on. Couldn’t be happier with the service.”
“As a commercial and residential builder I’ve used HazWreck on multiple projects and they’ve been excellent throughout. They handled a complete strip-out of a house in Carlton for me, and most recently a commercial asbestos strip-out and demolition at Strathfield Plaza. Having one licensed contractor who can take care of asbestos, strip-outs and demolition across both my resi and commercial sites makes my life so much easier. Professional, reliable and clean every time — couldn’t recommend them more.”
“HazWreck were brought in to remove asbestos from the old Commonwealth Bank building on Victoria Road, Gladesville, which we were turning into a Plus Fitness. They ended up taking on the complete strip-out and demolition, and the standard of work blew me away. As the demolition crew, they handed the site back not just clear but genuinely immaculate — and then went a step further and pressure washed the entire exterior until it was spotless. You expect a demo crew to leave a mess; these guys left it cleaner than they found it. Licensed, professional and they take real pride in their work. If you need asbestos removal, strip-out or demolition in Sydney, look no further.”
Good questions
It depends on the structure, access, services and waste volume. As a guide: garage and shed demolition from $3,999, full house demolition from $18,990, and bathroom or kitchen strip-outs from $1,500. All figures are indicative and confirmed after a site inspection, with a fixed, itemised quote before any work starts.
Because HazWreck holds a SafeWork NSW Class B asbestos licence (AD214755), we remove bonded, non-friable asbestos as part of the same job — no stop-work or second contractor. If friable (Class A) material is found, we stop, advise you, and arrange the correct licensed path.

Yes. Every HazWreck demolition is fully licensed and insured and carried out to NSW WHS Regulations, from the first site assessment to the final clean sweep.
In most cases, yes — demolition usually requires development approval (a DA or a Complying Development Certificate) before work begins, along with neighbour notification and service disconnections. The exact requirements depend on your property and council. We’ll walk you through what your job needs and work in with your certifier or builder.
A straightforward residential knockdown is often completed in a few days on site once approvals and service disconnections are in place. Timing depends on the size and construction of the building, site access, and whether asbestos removal is required first. We give you a clear timeframe with your fixed quote.
Services must be disconnected or made safe by the relevant authorities before demolition starts. We help coordinate the disconnections as part of planning the job, so the site is safe before any structure comes down.
Yes. HazWreck is SafeWork NSW Class B licensed (AD214755), so we remove bonded asbestos as part of the same demolition — no separate removalist, no stop-work. If friable material is found, we stop and advise the correct licensed path.
