About HazWreck
We Understand Buildings Because We’ve Spent Our Lives Building Them
HazWreck was founded on a simple belief. The best demolition contractors don’t just know how to take buildings apart. They understand how they were built in the first place. That understanding shapes everything we do.

Why we exist
Built to Remove Risk Before Construction Begins
From asbestos removal and hazardous material remediation to commercial strip-outs and structural demolition, every project begins with careful planning, clear communication and an unwavering commitment to safety and compliance.
Our clients aren’t simply looking for someone to demolish a structure. They’re trusting us with the first stage of their next project. Whether that’s preparing a family home for a knockdown rebuild, clearing a commercial tenancy for refurbishment, removing hazardous materials from an operating workplace or preparing a multi-million-dollar redevelopment site, our responsibility is the same.

Our story
Built on Generations of Construction Experience
Construction has always been part of our story. Founder and Managing Director Baris Kopuz grew up around the building industry, learning the trade from his father, who worked as a builder for decades. From an early age, construction wasn’t just a job — it was the family business.
That foundation created a genuine understanding of how buildings are designed, constructed and maintained. Over the past 25 years, Baris has built on that experience across residential and commercial construction, project management, waterproofing, building inspections and demolition. Rather than specialising in only one area of construction, he deliberately built experience across multiple disciplines to better understand the complete life cycle of a building — from construction through to maintenance, remediation and eventual demolition.
Today, HazWreck brings that broader construction knowledge to every project. Because when you understand how a building works, you make better decisions about how to safely remove it.
Founder & Managing Director
Meet Baris Kopuz — Founder & Managing Director
Baris founded HazWreck to raise the standard of demolition and hazardous materials removal. After years working across construction, project management and building inspections, one thing became clear. Too many demolition contractors focused only on removing materials. Very few focused on managing risk. HazWreck was created to change that.
Today Baris combines practical construction knowledge with specialist expertise across demolition, hazardous materials and building compliance.
Outside of HazWreck, Baris is also a licensed building inspector and certified waterproofer. This broader construction knowledge allows him to identify issues many demolition contractors simply don’t see, helping clients reduce risk, avoid costly delays and prepare sites correctly before construction begins.

Mikail is responsible for making sure every HazWreck project runs exactly as promised. Clients know him for clear communication, practical problem solving and keeping projects moving safely, efficiently and on schedule.
Mehmet Canli
Site Supervisor
With more than two decades working in the construction industry, Mehmet brings invaluable practical knowledge to every project. His experience spans residential and commercial construction, giving him a deep understanding of building methods, sequencing and safe work practices. As Site Supervisor, Mehmet leads crews on HazWreck’s most technically challenging projects.
Mehmet has developed a reputation for calm leadership on technically challenging projects. His practical knowledge and experience allow him to identify issues early while mentoring younger members of the HazWreck team.
What we do
More Than Demolition
HazWreck has grown into a specialist contractor providing integrated services across demolition, hazardous materials and building remediation. Managing multiple scopes under one contractor reduces risk, simplifies communication and provides clients with one point of accountability throughout the project.
The full picture
We Understand Buildings From Every Angle
Most demolition contractors only know the last stage of a building’s life. HazWreck’s experience runs the whole way through it:
- 1 Construction
- 2 Building Inspections
- 3 Waterproofing
- 4 Demolition
- 5 Hazardous Materials
- 6 Building Remediation
Our philosophy
Our Philosophy
Every demolition project creates opportunity — to rebuild, to renovate, to redevelop, to improve. Our job is to make sure that opportunity starts the right way. That means doing the work properly. Communicating openly. Protecting people. Protecting neighbouring properties. Protecting the environment. And leaving behind a site that’s genuinely ready for the next stage.
We don’t measure success by the number of buildings we’ve demolished. We measure it by the confidence our clients have in recommending us again.
That’s what Wreck & Protect means.
Compliance
Safety Is Non-Negotiable
Every HazWreck project is supported by detailed planning, site-specific SWMS, regulatory compliance and comprehensive documentation. Completing the physical work is only part of the job. The documentation matters just as much.
Accreditations & compliance
Licensed, Certified & Independently Assessed
HazWreck is CM3 certified — our work health & safety management system has been independently assessed to the standard principal contractors and government asset owners require before you set foot on site. That sits on top of a stack of statutory licences and trade qualifications held across the team.
