#007 HazWreck Is Now CM3 Certified

A Standard, Not a Sticker

HazWreck is now CM3 certified. For anyone outside commercial construction that might read like just another badge — so here’s what it actually means, and why we went after it.

CM3 is a contractor prequalification system used by principal contractors, government agencies and major asset owners across Australia to vet the businesses they let onto their sites. Before a builder or facility manager engages a subcontractor for demolition work, strip-out and defit or hazardous-materials work, many of them require that contractor to hold a current CM3 certification. No certification, no site access — regardless of how good your quote is.

To get there, our work health and safety management system was independently assessed against the standard: documented WHS procedures, safe work method statements, licensing, insurances and evidence that the systems are real and used, not just written. It’s a review of how the business runs, not a form you fill in.

Why We Pursued It

We could have kept trading without it. Plenty of demolition contractors do. We pursued CM3 for three reasons.

It opens bigger doors. CM3 prequalification is a gate to tier-one builder panels, government-managed sites and large commercial clients — exactly the work HazWreck is built to deliver. Being certified means we clear that gate before the conversation about the job even starts.

It proves the systems are real. We’ve always said HazWreck is a systems business — that the compliance and documentation matter as much as the physical work. An independent assessment against a recognised standard is external proof of that, not just our word for it.

It’s the standard our clients are held to. The principal contractors we work alongside carry serious WHS obligations. Bringing on a prequalified subcontractor is how they discharge part of that duty. Being CM3 certified makes HazWreck an easier, safer choice for the people making that call.

What It Doesn’t Change

Our licensing scope is exactly what it was. HazWreck holds a SafeWork NSW Class B Asbestos Removal Licence (AD214755) for bonded, non-friable asbestos — CM3 is a WHS management prequalification, not an asbestos class. The way we scope, price and document a job hasn’t changed either. What’s changed is that the systems behind all of it have now been independently checked and signed off.
